Nebelhorn - Germany's hardest climb!
Просмотров 122 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Sometimes you stumble upon a climb that's so ridiculously steep, so menacingly hard and yet so incredibly beautiful all at the same time that it makes you wonder if it's actually real, or just a bad nightmare. That's exactly what happened at the tail end of summer when exploring the Bavarian Alps in Germany. Up until the start of the trip I didn't even know this climb existed, but after a few a...

Up for the challenge? Of course you are! Start: La Aldea de San Nicolas Length: 24.2 km Summit: 1,360 m Elevation Gain: 1,580 m Average Gra...
Colle Fauniera - Italy's Best Kept Secret - Cycling Inspiration & Education
Просмотров 28 тыс.11 месяцев назад
Today we're exploring the Colle Fauniera, one of the toughest and most beautiful climbs in northern Italy that you may never have even heard of. While the legendary Stelvio often steals the limelight, in contrast the Fauniera is a wicked and wild silent giant, and one for those that love to go deep into the unknown. With steep pitches, huge views and a road as raspy as a cow's tongue, this is a...
High Altitude Gravel Bikepacking in the Swiss Alps! (Trailer)
Просмотров 7 тыс.Год назад
When my good friend Alain Rumpf mentioned last year that he needed a guinea pig for a somewhat mad idea for a high altitude gravel traverse in the Swiss Alps, no questions were needed, it was game on! Knowing it would be a unique experience we both decided to lug our camera gear around with us, up to 2,800m elevation, never finishing before dark and often wondering if we'd be able to get an eve...
Col de la Loze (Méribel) - Final climb of Stage 17 of the 2023 Tour de France.
Просмотров 49 тыс.Год назад
First featured in the 2020 Tour de France the Col de la Loze is definitely the new kid on the block with a fearsome reputation. From the valley you're faced with a long ascent, well over 25 kilometres in length, however it's when the road narrows and is closed to cars when things really start to get spicy. 7 kilometres at an average 10% may not sound like anything out of the ordinary but the Lo...
Pic du Midi de Bigorre - Above & beyond the Tourmalet!
Просмотров 24 тыс.Год назад
Forever peacefully watching over the legendary Col du Tourmalet, the ascent to the 2,877m summit of Pic du Midi de Bigorre in the French Pyrénées is a whole otherworldly experience. I’m often asked what my favourite climb is and, although that’s a question that deserves at least a six course meal to answer, this 6.6 kilometre section of gravel is (in my humble opinion) one of the most beautiful...

Got a personal best yesterday on the climb AND descent. One of the best days of my life!
I’ve been in Bourg d’Oisans all of August climbing and descending. Posted many of my rides @ChannelGriffin 🚴🏼♂️💨
What a performance😊 this is truely amazing. Just a few kilometers away from the Nebelhorn is the way up to 'Alpe Schlappold'. It starts next to the Skiflying Hill 'Heini Klopfer Flugschanze'. It's 7km long, gradient about 12% and it is really beautiful but highly exhausting. The road is in acceptable condition, mostly made of tarmac, there is no gravel. The landscape is a dream...have you heard of this climb?
Minimum 14 %, maximum 21.6 % - evil, pure evil!
@TheColCollective - Just 4 weeks post completing this ride i have a whole new level of respect for how easy you made this look. I took the gravel road up the side of Tourmalet through Viella and the MTB park to join the Voie Laurent Fignon by the bridge. Using that to access the Pic du Midi. Spectacular ride see Oncet / Laquets Hotel looking down on the new renovation works. I pulled the plug just above there as by then i was wrecked it was 4pm and i did not fancy the scramble carrying my bike to the observatory. Still even without that the hardest thing i have ever done on a bike. Thanks!
Sensational landscape, great narration als always. Road must be really awful in some places when you opt to climb it on 40-mm gravel tyres. Could it still be done with 28 mms?
Kudos on that colour-coordinated outfit! Climbed the Mortirolo in 2015 during the Granfondo Santini, one week after the Giro went over it. The stage winner's time was about 45 minutes, and my goal was to take double that time. I always thought of giving up but everytime someone who had already given up came towards me on their way back down, I deciced to go yet another bend until it somewhat "flattened out" and I was past half-way. It took me 80 minutes, goal achieved, but these were 80 minutes of constant pain (36/29 lowest gear may have been one reason for that).
My friend Will did it in august 2024. I am so proud of him. He trained for it the whole spring.
Surely an inspiration to travel and climb more, just stunning. On an editorial note: "milestone landmark" is redundant (5: 39). Other than that great production as always.
Lovely ride, professional production (except for the captions, 2:10 - There are* six routes to Teide, 6:33 - where the pros* choose, plural, no apostrophe) down to the sponsor representation. It is surely pure coincidence that the pro team passing by rides the same brand of bikes as the presenter.
Magnifique. La Stelvio pour Bormio regarde si beau ! Chapeau, Col Collective!
The Mortirolo is not beautiful, but it is a real challenge. I think it's the limit of what makes sense on a road bike. Steeper climbs, such as the Zoncolan, are no longer suitable even for trained cyclists with standard gear ratios.
Szép teljesítmény! Csak gratulálni tudok, és fantasztikus környezet 😊
Love this and thank you for the great video! I am wondering though -- coffee shop recommendations along the route for us casual riders? Any key photo stops? Thank you!
Good work Mike...loving it
First song: Legitti - Beautiful scene. Piano song: Alex Besss - Dramatic
Still an inspiring video. Will be attempting a climb this week.
How it was?
@@Zeadbanger It was great thanks for asking. I left at 6 am to have a calm road. This was really nice. Very little traffic even though it is tourist season. I even saw 2 deer on the road, they only moved when I passed them. For the climb I used the ‘hohenweg’ (high road) between Grosskrichheim and Road above Heiligenblut (L20). I would recommend it for climbing cyclists as it is more calm and more beautiful than the valley road. At 9 am I arrived at Kaiser Franz Josefs Höhe. I had 34-30 gearing which was OK, but a little lighter would have been more comfortable. On the descent I was still glad that I was early and few people were descending yet. I descended the main road to Heiligenblut and further into the valley. In the valley there are good cycling paths. I wish everyone a safe journey especially on the descent!
What could I say! Every of your videos are are absolutely sensationals! I REALLY HOPE in the future I can meet you during a climb!
If anybody dont know what dajjaal system tried to do, ask them to explain this video most of it is self explanatory
Beautiful scenery, thanks for the inspiration, Mike!
Did this last week followed by Izoard. Your film and the film by Bike the World were massively helpful. It’s kind of nice and distracting to recognise parts and features, I always thought it would take away from the adventure but actually it makes it even better! I’d recommend to anyone- it is quiet, beautiful and delightfully isolated with a cracking descent as well
💪🏻
Great images. Did it in September 1999. Sun at the bottom and really cold and foggy at the Cime de la Bonnette. Was there for one week on vacation and did several other passes in that region that year. Col de Vars, Col de Larche, Col d'Allos, Col de la Cayolle, Col d'Angel and the Col d'Izoard. Also did my third climbing of Alpe d'Huez.
Who’s here in 2024 for TdF Stage 19?
Hi, I am curious if you notice any sign that indicates motorbikes are not allowed on the road? I am planning to ride until the 'mittelstation' then take the lift. Do you think is that allowed ?
Brilliant video! I rode it today and your review is spot on. After the sufferfest, the view as you get to the Barrage Grand Maison is spectacular. The second half is the one to enjoy. Even though a long climb, you’ve done the hard kilometres in the first half and now you can enjoy the spectacular views with the lesser gradients (and boy are they spectacular!). Definitely take a jacket as even in mid July when temperatures are about 30 in Allemond it is chilly when descending especially with the wind at that altitude. Great thing about this ride is for large parts it feels like you have the mountain to yourself as it has far fewer riders than the more popular climbs in the region, even though the views here are just amazing.
bike touring folks do this with loaded bikes...
I like kit with lots of adverts for products I've never heard of.
Anyone else climbing this next week ahead of the Tour??
Unreal climb. Great vid as usual. Just as my motivation was beginning to wane 🙂👍🚴 Thanks Mike !
Mike, I'm from Indonesia, I'm very happy that you have returned to make a video that motivates me to cycle
I climbed this with three friend in 2015, shortly after Mike made this video. The music and photography captures this climb so very well. It is one of my favorites. I was in the US and intentionally did not watch it to the end at the time because I wanted the climb to retain some mystery.
Amazing!! Super cool story and thanks for sharing! 🐮
Worse movie clip ever. Stupid bikers, talking about the average elevation climb, they manage to climp. Confimed by heavy breaving. Just mega stupid.
Amazing thank you .
You’re very welcome! 🐮
An f’ing _car_ on the intro? 🫤
That’s home, the van I spend most of the time in “on tour” to film and capture these videos. No place like home ☺️
Loves it out of the saddle !
Glandon is a Beauty. Just combind it with Alp D Huez this week
Legend!!!!! 👏🏼
Well done sir. "wot" no lamas????
Not this time, super cool when they are up there though!
Broke derailleur hanger 1km from top last July but made it up this June (just). The stuff around the 3 ski telecabines is just plain unpleasant 😂
Massive respect!! 🫡
@@TheColCollective Probably pushing it as a 56 year old with lingering long covid issues! Love the filming and narrative which encourages me on!
I rode the monte grappa 4 years ago. What a feeling when you reach the top, because it is a beast of mountain 🇮🇹
You’re absolutely right! So rewarding by the summit 🙌🏼
Another great video👌👍🎉🎉 and another climb to add to the list😎. Just watched the new “ gravel video” on Wahoo SYSTM….fantastic, will have to take the gravel bike next time I go to Gran Canaria🤓.
Just...glorious...
My home village pass ❤️ was climbing it surely 300+ times. And still one of my favorites
Great. Now ride Barr trail down.
can you ride your biccyle through the the gorge now (2024)? Are the repairs finished?
Good question, I’m not sure 🤔
@@TheColCollective I know now Igor told me! It’s still closed will open to walkers first soon but stay closed to cyclists. There is talk of having a cyclist only path but to put a toll on it. They are still nutting out the details
There is so much cycling content on YT these days, but Col Collective has always set the standard 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Before the tinker tailor soldier specs
Saturday its my turn to climb the Angliru with a 39/53 crankset and a 28 cassette. Damn...
How did it go?
@@TheColCollective very hard climb I left Guimarães (Portugal) it is approximately 500 kms.
Video makes it look deserted of cars and motorbikes..in reality it's a busy road!
